Volunteering is fun! Being a Big Brother or Big Sister is one of the most rewarding and enjoyable things you will ever do. With just a few hours a month, you can change a young person’s life and create memories that will last a lifetime

Depending on the Big Brothers Big Sisters program you’re in, you will meet your Little at his or her school or in the community. Our Littles come from all kinds of backgrounds. Some are as young as age six, and others are teenagers. Some may live on your block and some a few miles away. But the one thing they have in common is they need a friend like you. Won’t you step up to the plate and become a Big Brother or Big Sister? Imagine if every child had a mentor. Imagine knowing you made the difference. It’s the simple things in life that form our favorite memories. Bigs and Littles find that little moments truly are big magic.

One of the biggest misconceptions about being a Big Brother or Big Sister is that it means being the perfect role model. What it really means is being a friend, and bringing a little magic into your life and that of a child.

Think back to when you were a kid. Who was it that brought magic into your life just by being there? Who do you remember with a smile? Maybe it was an aunt who taught you to cook, or a neighbor who let you help him fix his car. Or maybe it was someone who just included you in everyday activities of life because it was fun - for both of you.

A lot of things have to happen before we make a match. After a volunteer expresses interest in our volunteer opportunities, all our Bigs go through a rigorous background check and careful interview process. Then we match Big and Littles based on location, personalities, and preferences. And we provide full support along the journey…and watch matches grow into lasting friendships.
